Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: Thanks guys ...

>What I do not understand is why you are not uncomfortable about the inconsistencies and do something to resolve them.<

You said it yourself. I am a subjectivist and subjectivists are stupid.

>There may be only a small number of "objectivists" but you know who they are and they are all clones of each other in that they all say the same boring thing and have always said the same boring thing <

I can read what they say but when confronted with their beliefs, they respond with "I didn't say that".

>Please inidicate a poster who is a subjectivist and can reason like a scientist (which is not the same as attending science classes in school). <

You'll simply poison the well. If I name one or ten, you'd come back with "Well, they can't reason like a scientist and be a subjectivist.

>I have seen many posts from subjectivists claiming that objectivists claim all amplifiers sound the same. I have never seen a post from an objectivist making this claim.<

I have never seen a post from an objectivist stating much of anything about their POV. That's the problem. You think it's dishonesty that we say they believe all amps sound the same? LOL. No, it's just that they weasel around and change direction so often it's hard to keep up. Perhaps if they would state their position, we might find some common ground. Too much like a secret club.

>There is nothing secret about the archives.<

No point in going there. I've probably read most of the posts when they were new. They say little to nothing about the objectivist POV.

>Why learn if that is not your inclination? <

Surely you can do better than this.

>If you get satisfaction from your beliefs and poking at objectivists then enjoy.<

I do! Thanks. :) But I poke at just about anybody. This is a hobby and it's fun. Lots of comraderie. I can only think of one poster that's not worth responding to. I even enjoy the sense of humor of those on the opposite side of the fence.

>You cannot hold audiophile beliefs while considering the scientific method and the established scientific knowledge about sound, sound perception and audio equipment to be valid because they are largely in conflict.<

See above. I was correct. The fact is that there are thousands of scientists designing and building audiophile equipment while I type this. Talk to them. They have audiophile experiences. They've done blind testing and components still sound different... or wait, WHEN can they sound different and when can't they? Maybe the objectivist credo is all amps/cables/CDP's sound alike except when they don't. Hard to figure out from what's been stated by objectivists on AA.

I'm not sure I understand your definition of audiophile nor do I know if an audiophile possesses all, most, or only some of the "audiophile beliefs" you mentioned but have not listed. I absolutely don't agree that the objectivist POV is never changing. I think it shifts to and fro, not only between different posters but often by the same poster. It's a slippery little thing. Perhaps someone will spell it out sometime. Then we can work on the problems of both POV's. It's only then that you can hope to gain any converts. As for me, I'm sure that the objectivist side holds most of the truths. There's just one missing... how does it explain those inconsistencies you mentioned? Certain things that shouldn't sound different do. That's a fact. The question is why?
