Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I have been at the hobby for over 40 years. Yes equipment is far superior to the old equipment, but

It is not a result of DBTesting. It is mainly a focus on better parts and attention to details such as vibration. Bad sounding equipment has been replaced with better sounding equipment with buyers making good decision and buying the better equipment.

I have participated in the normal DBT such as used in psychology and better long duration DBTs where even designers picked unexpected components that they preferred. The first type in the three instances were I was a subject resulted in the conclusion that we could not prove we could hear differences. The second resulted in all clearly hearing differences. Which is valid? Do I care when I am making a decision whether to buy or not? I did not buy the preamp that everyone preferred and I totally ignored the "no difference" conclusion from the first type of DBT.
