If an audiophile stops believing it strikes me as very unlikely they would continue posting to an audiophile newsgroup. I suspect almost all would jetison everything audiophile and just get on with other things like listening to music.

In addition, how many people that contribute to a thread such as this do so with a view to obtaining information rather than reinforcing their position by points scoring? Nothing wrong with the latter if people are having fun but it will not lead to those involved shifting position. I suspect a few casual readers possibly are nudged away from the subjectivists viewpoint not so much by the arguments but by the emotional and evasive behaviour.

I think you are wrong about the lack of accomplishment. This is one of the few ways I can see for a strong audiophile to reinforce audiophile beliefs and bond by opposing and overcoming objectivists assuming, of course, some can be found since they tend to be rather thin on the ground within audiophile circles.

I can see the objectivists may enjoy the points scoring but, like you, to me this does not seem to be enough. Why invest signficant time in a forum where you receive almost exclusively negative information when you could be spending time somewhere more sensible reading or discussing positive information about sound and audio?

Whatever, I have gained a bit of insight from Analog Scott's contributions in this thread even if I failed to get him to open up and tell me about science. Although I must confess to having left some of the contributions from the regulars unread.
