You've set up a false dichotomy. Why on earth does anyone need to validate their experience? And how on earth could it be done with a DBT? You'll have to explain that one. Good luck with it . . . but it's your assumption, not mine!

I like to listen to good music (and also to perform it). But I just don't mindlessly attribute the good experiences merely to having excellent equipment. I have spent some time and effort in setting up the speakers and getting them to sound somewhere near their potential, so that the system doesn't get in the way of the music. I try to find fine recorded performances and where possible, good to excellent recordings (not possible with old historical recordings, but I still like some of the old ones). But you know, really, even more important is getting relaxed and in the mood to enjoy music--helpful even for live performances.
