Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I agree Norm. There's great humor in audio.....

watching grown men attempting to justify audio equipment purchases based on results, "science" or "technical knowledge" garnered or applied by others.

Could you imagine women discussing the technical merits or the chemical compositions of the perfumes they purchase - or even better yet advertisers marketing by focusing on these topics.

We buy wine because of it's taste, perfume because of it's smell and should buy audio because of it's sound. Even mostly unemotional purchases like washing machines and refridgerators are made based on function and convenience.

These are all functions of individual preferences/satisfaction based on taste/flavor/sound, and functionality, and convenience. We don't need scientists or statisticians proving to us as individuals which or what is preferential - that's our business.

Unless an individual is involved in a DBT, blind listening test or comparison the results are useless. Taste testing or "smell" testing or listening testing by others may limit what we as individual can taste, smell or hear as it effects what is marketed or available to us - however we should take it upon ourselves to taste, smell or hear as much as possible before we make up our own minds. The less rely on the "testing" of others the more confident we can be with our own decisions.
