Re: No reason why you should believe me John

Now that you bring up the fraud charge yet once again, what is quite peculiar, in the context of all of your continuing harrange, is that you actually have the chip in your possession and have not, as far as we know, taken the time to audition it.

Geoff, I have listened to "treated" CDs. In fact I've been listening off and on for about a week, to a range of source material ranging from pink noise to well-recorded music (including several tracks from various Stereophile test CDs).

So far I have failed to discern any difference, despite doing my best.

Why haven't I mentioned this? Because it proves nothing. Maybe my ear is poor. Maybe my system isn't resolving enough. Maybe it isn't adequately "tuned." Maybe my $20,000 CD player isn't level (just kidding on that one; I don't own a $20,000 CD player). Maybe, indeed, despite my best efforts at giving this thing an honest listen, I'm predisposed NOT to hear an effect. I'd be the first to admit that my failure to hear a difference could be rooted in the same psychology I attribute to those who claim to hear a difference.

Geoff, you are only a fraud if you don't really believe what you're selling, if you are consciously running a scam. In my post I said that you were using your talents and credentials to sell something that I believe is bogus. I have no way of knowing whether you truly believe in it or not. You may well be sincere. On that point I have no opinion, since I have no information. Unless I have some evidence--which I do not--that this is a cynical act of shameless marketing, I would not call you a fraud, and if I have done so in the past, you have my sincere apologies.

Jim
