As the someone...

seated next to Allan who claimed to hear a difference after running a number of before-and-after and a couple of two-disc (untreated and treated) comparisons using the GSIC-30 he subsequently had analyzed, I'd suggest that he warrants neither a raspberry nor the imputation that he's seeing stars.

I heard what I heard, and, as Allan knows, I stand by my conclusions. But, like him, I find the technical explanation for what I heard dicey at best, especially in view of what the disassembled chip appears to be in the cold hard light of photo-and-materials-analytic day.

It may be difficult for some to divorce the apparent effect of the chip for some (like me) from the (I'll refrain from the "obsessive" modifier) need for a scientifically airtight explanation of why it "works" (again, for some). But, unpalatable as it may seem, I consider these two separate and distinct issues.

What Allan has laid out in this thread is the "what" of an actual chip and the valid questions that "what" raises about the _explanation_ given for what some of us hear. Why that should provoke an apparent anxiety attack among some here is beyond me. What it _should_ prompt is a response by the chip's designer, vendor, or flack--whichever is appropriate--that addresses the issues he's raised...and in a manner as down-to-earth, straightforward, and unfuzzed-up as Allan's. Until that happens, all the invective and cheap shots he's evoked so far is a lot of sound and fury signifying nano-nano-nunu.
