Laws of nature and engineeering rules

>>This is the way it works folks. Audio is one area where the usual rules of design engineering are not quite enough.<<

JC, though I don't have your experience so I don't know for sure, I completely believe this. Those rules can get you a long way--and I suspect that they are often ignored by some inferior audio products, to their detriment. But I suspect you are right when it comes to getting that last half ounce of performance out of a 100 pound amplifier.

But there's a big difference between saying that the rules/conventions of engineering are not enough, and that the basic principles of physics aren't enough. Sure, those principles are imperfect and incomplete. But some of those engineering rules you're talking about are little more than heurististic guidelines. One fully EXPECTS to find places where they don't apply. Engineering conventional wisdom is violated all over the place in specific applications.

Not so for nature's fundamental laws. And the chip would have to violate THOSE to affect the sound of a CD. I'm not saying it's impossible, but that the likelihood is extremely small.

Best Regards,
jim Austin
