No reason why you should believe me John

John,

I know David Glackin by reputation--not personally--and I feel confident that if he takes a close look at the chip and its claims he will say the same thing that I've said: that it can't possibly work. But if he has taken a close look and concluded that it CAN work, there's no reason at all why you should believe me instead of him.

I'll send David an email and see if I can get him to share his views. It's certainly possible that he knows something I don't that would change my mind. If I manage to get in touch and he tells me something interesting, I'll be sure to share it here.

John, if you resent my previous post, it must be because of the last paragraph. This was not directed at you. I don't consder you to be among the folks that would be easily swayed by claims of esoteric science. I merely meant that there enough people out there that are easily swayed by "dark energy," "quantum entangelement" and other sexy-sounding but inapplicable concepts that there's no shortage of maketers willing to try to sell stuff to them. You, obviously, are not one of them.

John, I'm truly sorry that you were offended by my post, as well as by the quote I used in Stereophile (though I stand behind it--and it's purpose--fully). I think you're wrong on this, but as I've said before I have great respect for your accomplishments. I hope that some day I can claim such a legacy.

We all make choices. You have chosen to trust your ears, and that has served you well. Geoff Kait has chosen to use his talents and exploit his credentials selling audio products that I believe are bogus. I've chosen to exploit my talents and credentials (such as they are) partly to convince people that these products are bogus.

I believe that stuff like this is bad for the industry/hobby because it contributes to this hobby's shady image; as long as the leading lights are promoting stuff like this, many serious folks are going to be offput and will miss out on the great pleasure audio can provide, and equipment manufacturers and dealers will miss out on those potential sales. That's my agenda, but I'm exploiting my credentials just as shamelessly as Kait to that end, though for me there is less profit in it.

So now you know where I stand, hopefully. I've decided not to debate the chip anymore, since I've determined that it's pointless, so I won't post anymore about the chip unless I come across new evidence. But if I learn anything more from Dave Glackin and it's on the record, I'll let everyone know.

Jim
