Try the old root beer/coke experiment. If you think you're getting coke, and it's really root beer, it tastes disgusting, until you realize it's root beer, then it tastes like root beer. The senses are easily fooled, it's how a lot of people make money in Vegas, and I don't just mean the CES :)
