That would be difficult to do, DkB, since, AFAIK, none of the PCM 16/44 CD recordings that represent the medium best have ever been reissued as SACDs. Thus, any comparisons -- double blind or otherwise -- would be impossible. Furthermore, given that the bulk of the SACD reissues I have heard in the classical or acoustic jazz venues run the gamut from acceptable to just shy of, but not excellent (I don't listen to pop either), I can't think of a single pair of digital releases, one SACD & one CD, that would give the SACD a fair chance.Take, for example, the Mercury Living Presence series of SACDs. The consensus appears to be that in most cases the Wilma Cozart Fine CD layers are superior to the newly remastered DSD layers.
Rather than list even a single CD source on earth [that] can reproduce PCM 16/44 CD recordings of orchestral music or big band jazz with as much realism, depth, drama, presence, explosive dynamics, expression, subtle of touching/bowing/blowing and colour as SACD recordings on even a 1st generation SACD player such as an SCD-1, I would cordially invite you here for a visit, so that you could make the determination for yourself.
