Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

I have thought about this a lot

and my first audio experiences were through a random AM table radio that my Dad had- and the power of music came through perhaps more then than now.

At any rate, I find that a recording can involve me in a number of ways. I have Gillian Welch's Time the Revelator. This is out on a CD, never came out on any other medium. Nobody would mistake this for a hi-rez recording. And yet, when I listen to it, it is totally hypnotic and emotionally involving. I love this record. Would I like to have it in better sound? You bet. Sound is all part of the experience. But I count myself fully satisfied when I listen to it. There are many many SACDs with unquestionably better sound that I end up stopping early because I get bored. And when you talk about modern classical music, the type of thing that Arditti plays, the availability on SACD is almost nil- a very few scattered titles.
