I have heard SACD sounding VERY good. That said in recent years I have heard CD sounding very good too. Some of this I think is down to engineers starting to really understand how to master for the medium.
In fact in the last couple of years I have really expanded my CD collection.
One fear I have is that music will start to be mastered to sound good for iPods and DAB!
I chose the DVD-A route over SACD simply because I can record and produce DVD-A easily and relatively cheaply.
I hope that SACD does have enough legs to keep going as a niche format; I accept that commercial DVDA is dead and buried. If SACD does continue then I could see myself buying into it in a few years.
