Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Agreed that vinyl can be frustrating as you describe, but…

It is clear to me from your initial comments (and many comments of others who post here) that you have not heard conventional CD on a system that is capable of demonstrating what the medium can produce. Throwing lots of money into components designed and priced for well-heeled audiophiles won’t necessarily bring you any closer to achieving the goal of making any medium produce sound optimally either. I’ve heard astonishing results from ordinary CDs in a Music Hall player that had been slightly modified by its owner that (after numerous comparisons) sounded more like music to me (and others) than any of several of the most highly regarded SACD players on the market. Obviously, then, it’s not the CD media that brings poor sound, it’s the complement of sacred cow players blessed by the writers in print and online that is the culprit. Couple these to systems that might not be offering the kind of synergy that can be attained with a little effort, and I can understand why some less than patient audiophiles could document how they’ve sold large collections of CDs, LPs and even SACDs only to buy them again once they had made a change here or there.

I congratulate you for finding 800 SACDs that you consider worth owning. OTOH with the multiple thousands of LPs and CDs I’ve been collecting for more than 40 years, my own SACD collection numbers about a quarter of what you have after having sold off a hundred or so that couldn’t pass muster.
