Right on the mark....cabling often the culprit...

I was into that same rut. It seemed the more I "improved" my system, the more I highlighted the flaws of recordings at the expense of musicality and the enjoyment of the whole performance.

In my case, all the components taken individually had the reputation of leaning to the warm side of neutral, but all I was hearing was an irritating edge to recordings in the upper mids/treble that made me wonder whether I'd wandered too far past the point of no return. A set of new Virtual Dynamics Master bi-wires cured that problem. I'm in the process of replacing the rest of my wiring as a result.

Brand loyalty sometimes has its rewards, and sometimes just digs one deeper into the same hole. I'd tried to "improve" my situation by climbing up the pricing ladder within the same wiring brand. Sometimes elaborate designs are required as band-aid solutions to fundamentally flawed design approaches, and in this hobby enlightenment comes at a high price.
