Get a hold of an all-analog, all-tube system and you'll see what I'm talking about.It doesn't matter what brand of tube gear (or even how old it is) as long as it is pure tube. (No solid-state regulators allowed, so no ARC.) So maybe some CJ, or some old Dyna, or some old McIntosh, some VTL, et cetera. Feed it with a decent turntable. And now assuming that the cartridge isn't mistracking, I don't think you'll find anything that isn't at least enjoyable to listen to.
The trick is to achieve that same level of musical satisfaction with CD's and solid-state electronics. It's not easy, but it can be done.
