What is 'nonlinear distortion?'

There is harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion and quantization noise, but I don't know what he means by 'nonlinear distortion.'

It also is not clear from the article that he specifically avoids the assumption that distortion is a fraction of the signal independent of signal level. I believe that is how many audiophiles and technical specialists interpret the language, even if they are careful to specify the measurement conditions.
