It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Thanks for setting the record straight about

I'm not sure which Kleiber DG recording you are referring to, the father or the son. I have the DG reccording of Carlos Kleiber's Beethoven 5th and 7th on both redbook CD and DVD-Audio. The sound on the latter has been remastered and is superb. Carlos Kleiber's rendition of the 5th is considered by many musicians and conductors to be the definitive version.

I also have the DVD-Video of Kleiber conducting the 4th and 7th. You can find the entire Video of the 7th on YouTube. It is a rare treat to watch him evoking such a splendid performance.

Hi, Barney! - Yeah, I was referring to Carlos Kleiber - see my comments further down about all the incarnations of this performance. I guess we'll just have to disagree about the sound quality, even on the DVD-Audio (by far its best medium - I'll agree with you there!).

I used to have the laser disc of C. Kleiber doing the Seventh with the Concertgebouw, and I've been meaning to pick up the DVD-Video. I remember the engineering as basically much more coherent than the DG LP (which was all I had at the time), but still somewhat dull sounding. I suspect the DVD-Video might be better.
