A nice post! And of such a warhorse, too - not easy.Has anyone heard Boulez' take of this, with the New Philharmonia Orchestra (EMI/Sony, from '68)? I'd be curious to hear impressions.
Shares probably very few of the attributes you seek, apart from weight and clarity... (And the first movement must be about the slowest ever.)
For enjoyment I mostly alternate between Abbado's later DG recording (with BPO), for the amazing nuance of the orchestral playing and that typical abbadoesque combination of power and lightness, and Klemperer, depending on mood.
