Have you heard the 1937 Furtwaengler/BPO? Not ponderous at all, unlike his postwar versions (particularly the popular 1954 VPO which sounds quite weary), and it features perfection surpassing even that of the admittedly excellent C. Kleiber/VPO.

I have an excellent LP transfer of the 1937 Furtie on French EMI, and a CD incarnation on the pirate Great Conductors of the 20th Century series.
