I too am a big Karl Bohm fan and his recording of the 6th is my favorite for that work by a huge margin. I especially love the broad tempo of the second movement which has lyrical interplays in abundance. But the 5th is not the place for lyrical interplays, in my view. And what I like about the Carlos Kleiber is that it is so much more than brisk excitement. That is what I find in Toscanini, Szell, and many other fast versions. But Kleiber is slightly less fast and brings weight, intensity, subtlety, depth, and an undercurrent of psychological complexity that none of the others--fast or slow--quite get.
