Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: You are probably quite correct.

"Phil, I don't appreciate your talking about me. You know who I am, we have spoken together at CES. What is your problem?"

You frequently speak to Jon about me, Steve, jneutron and others. What's your problem?

You make claims (like that you have measured diodes in wires), then can't back them up, then start bad mouthing those who point out you can't back up your claims. That's why I speak about you. Since you asked, that's my "problem"?

"The problem is this: We, who are the principal audio designers in this industry, know from listening experience that cables, connectors, board layout, etc are very important to successful sound systems, BUT we don't usually know exactly why. When we try to explore advanced physics to find some sort of answers, we are shouted down by this group. Why, I don't know. If you have some better answers, let's hear them."

Who is the "we"? Are you claiming all "principal audio designers" agree with you?

As for you personally "know[ing]" that all these things are important, I have never questioned what you do as a designer. In fact I have gone out of my way to say I don't question that. You choose what works for you and the market place is the judge of whether it works for others. In your case, the marketplace has responded positively.

What I do question is the disfunctional (IMHO) manner in which you engage in dialog on this board (which is an entirely separate function from designing and subject to a much different set of criteria). You make claims and then go on the attack as soon as anyone raises any questions or doubts about your claims. Is that what you mean by exploring "advanced physics layout"? Is bashing every single person who attempts to ensure that your claims (and the claims of all others) are firmly grounded your idea of "exploring" scientific questions?

I do have a better idea John. Drop the personal attacks, welcome critque of the claims and work you describe on the internet and respond on issues not personalities, be willing to be mistaken, critque in a polite and professional manner the posts of others, be open to suggestions from all sources regardless of their creditential or "experience" in audio, and above all, try to be polite and respectful of others (particularly those with whom you may have disagreements). If you followed this advice you might be amazed at how much you could learn from others, how much you could teach others, and how much more enjoyable life might become.
