Re: That post is little more than a troll

I suppose that I read the post differently. The link to AH was telling to me. We've made the decision to crack down, not delete, but to stop threads that look like they will spiral into the black hole. I still don't disagree with that decision. Tony strikes me as an example of those that would like to create a spiral, so he is not a great example.

You talk about newcomers, but that's not what this is about. IMO, Jon is so accomodating of newcomers that it amazes me, even ones that I'd peg as trolls. I think we both know that most old salts know that Cables was created for believers. That argument doesn't hold water.

Again, if you believe that Jon is abusing his power or pushing his opinion using his authority rather than simply expressing his opinion, please use Comment link. I don't read Cables. IMO, Jon is doing his best to participate and help folks and also act as a moderator. He's well aware of the issues and difficulty. We need to deal with specifics as we go forward, not rehash the past.

The other problem comes from a position that we should make Cables completely subjective. That just doesn't work. Geometry is an issue and much of it is easily measureable. While some aspects like teflon versus PE are more subjective, I don't see where we can draw clean lines. People want to talk about these issues and they want to postulate their theories without being subjected to an inquisition. Generally, it's working.

I do take issue with the comment about lies regarding Steve. Originally, I did tell Steve that I wasn't in agreement for a ban. I got out voted. That's how it works. Sure, I could have over ruled, but I respect the moderators input. The decision was reviewed recently and we came to the same decision. Personally, I like Steve, though I wish he'd get rid of the DIYAudio tag. OTOH, I also think that he loves to argue. Put him and Jon or John together and you get tons of arguments that go nowhere. If Steve and Jon can work out their differences between themselves and submit a plan to the Bored for coexistence in Cables, then I'm sure we'd lift the ban. That hasn't happened. The ban on Steve was related to continued contentious behavior. It's that simple.
