Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Which dielectrics? Well,

let's see, what else is available? I'm sure you know what is commonly available in commercial products. Add to that various natural materials that are in fashion in certain parts of the world (cotton, paper, etc.), and there you have it, 10 or so, generally speaking.

I don't have to recommend anything specific just because you claim it is anarchy otherwise. This is not anarchy. It is called freedom of choice. There are enough opinions floating around, enough dealers with audition policies, etc., for anyone to listen to a variety of cables and to make up their minds for themselves. It isn't about science, it is about personal preference. Huge numbers of people think teflon sucks, and prefer other dielectrics. People can surely search and discover for themselves what else is available, and listen for themselves. They do not need to take your word for it, nor mine.

Am I saying try them all? No. Am I espousing anarchy? No. Am I saying listen to a variety of cables using a variety of materials and geometries because your opinion may not be the same as Jon Risch's as to what is "best"? Most definitely. Am I saying Jon Risch's opinion as to what sounds best is no more valid than anyone else's? Damn right.

There just is no substitute for first hand experience, and when it comes to matters of personal preference, you really ought to just back off and accept the fact that all your theories and listening tests are meaningless to anyone but yourself when it comes to what is "best", or what is preferable.

My purpose is simple: to share my experience with others, which is trust your own ears, rather than the dogma of cable gurus. You can continue to try to spin that into something it isn't because it bruises your ego, and create all sorts of boogey men, or you can do your job as a moderator and uphold the rules which prohibit argumentative rhetoric while supporting an environment where expression of opinion is possible without harrassment.
