Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I Agree Yet Once Again...

Real JJ, I agree that A bit of work is necessary to bridge the gap between an artist or artisan and the scientist. Sometimes it can be very useful to bridge the gap.

I feel the same way about Objectivists & Subjectivists. By this I mean I feel that a bit of work is necessary to bridge the gap between an Objectivist & a Subjectivist. I also believe sometimes & probably most times it can be very useful to bridge this gap as well!

Despite what others might believe is the motivation behind my recent posts... attempting to bridge the gap between Objectivists & Subjectivists is my primary goal.

As you know I am a Subjectivist. But I'm a Subjectivist who agrees with the Objectivist idea that we should be able to have measurements that correlate whats been measured with what's been heard. Unfortunately IMHO todays accepted measurements don't do that. I feel this is evidenced by solidstate amps measuring well while they replicate music poorly (in that they often cause quick listener fatigue) and by SET amps measuring poorly while they replicate music well (in that they often cause the desire for extended listening sessions) of course neither of these are absolutes. There are good and bad solidstate & SET amps.

It was and is, my hope that scientists or audio designers could develop a test to measure "these sounds" that Dieter refered to. If and when this is done we might just finally have an accepted test that honestly correlates what's been measured with what's been heard.
