How can he claim he found a correlation when in every example he gave, every one of those other variables changed at the same time? His claim of correlation has to do with personal preference, not accuracy based on a limited number of anecdotal stories. Why should it be surprising that among those he polled, in all likelihood accostomed to and preferring whatever characteristics are peculiar to this particular class of product to begin with, that they'd find another example of it preferable? If I polled a kindergarten class whether they preferred ice cream or broccoli, what overwhelming response do you think I'd get? Now suppose I polled a convention of broccoli farmers?
