Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

We know the answer, he agrees with the thesis' basic premise

And that is that when comparing harmonic distortion in amplifiers, increasingly greater weight should be given to progressively higher harmonics because they are more irritating. This supposedly favors vacuum tube amplifiers because even though their total harmonic distortion is usually substantially higher than well designed ss amps, the distribution of harmonics is different and by this theory more favorable.

And I did challenge John Curl;

And as with my last challenge, I've heard no reply so far. I asked him to demonstrate that regardless of the distribution of harmonics, the very low level of them in typical ss amplifies is audible in a type of test which would eliminate all other variables from skewing the results.

I for one did not say the thesis is outdated, I said the technology which would be favored by assuming the thesis is correct is outdated. And I also question both the method of the thesis and the relevance of its conclusion given the very low levels of harmonic distortion achieved in many well designed ss amps.
