Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Don't you think

In some cases, where the spaker has fairly obvious flaws and faults, yes, you will hear those right away, and they may not smooth out over time, certainly not enough to alleviate them entirely.

On the other hand, quite a few of the better high performance speaker systems sound good out of the box, BUT, they don't reach their full potential until they have been played enough.

In extreme cases, a speaker can sound somewhat irritating, and poorly balnaced in terms of tonal balnace or imaging, depth of field, etc., and they can then straighten out considerably with break-in, improving the sound enough to make the difference as to whether or not you would want to keep them long term. Break-in will not "fix" a very poor sounding speaker, only somewhat reduce some of the aspects that one might find irritating.

Of course, it doesn't help that everyone reacts differently to these kinds of things, and each system can react differently to a given speakers set of compromises and flaws.
