I first used the Motorola complementary pair: the 2N3716, 2N3792, the very first complementay pair available to anyone, back in 1967 to make my first power amp. I then graduated to the Motorola 2N5684-6 comp pair in 1969, then the 2N5884-6, and even tried the MJ15003-4, (a disappointing part pair). In 1980, I changed to Fujitsu ring emitter transistors, and got a 1000V/us slew rate, where I got only 100V/us from the MJ 15003-4 with the same drive circuit. Now, this was progress!
Today, I use Toshiba and Sanken ring emitter transistor pairs, and I think that you will find that Motorola (ON) copies the Toshiba devices and markets them as their own.
Let's get real here.
