Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

However "properly designed" amps still sound different.

Hi.

Any devices, passive or active, are boiled down to a LCR AC network.
Different L C R existed in the active (be them bipolars, FETs, or .. op-amps) or passive, like resistor, capacitors or inductance which build up an amp, are part of a complex composite AC network which perform per the music frequencies. Plus the INTERFACES with amp the driving components, e.g. a record player or a CD or DVD-audio player & the receiving component, loudspeakers.

So to claim for "matched levels" are only ideal & theoretical.

Just to say all "properly designed" amp may as well say all "properly designed cables" sound the same which is the relatively
the simplest passive components in the signal circuit. Tell me do all cables sound the same ?????

So I don't agree whoever tells me "all properly desinged amps
have no sound of their own". Even both twin tubes perform differently.

That why my audition panel, including my pair of rusted ears, can distinctly hear the remarkable difference on rolling different makes of 300Es. We did an audition btween WE (new production) & a well-known Chinese make with a pair of Hi-end brandname PP power monoblocks.

It was just like an old woman (Chinese make 300E) dragging her feet magically transformed to a Cinderella (WE300E) spinning ballet in her dancing shoes.

Imagine, same amp but only rolling different makes of same model no of power triodes !! What else can be more "matched"??

PS: Sorry, I am yet to be impressed by any op-amps or MOS-FET amps. For SS devices, I still go for discrete bi-polars sonically.
