Re: Bipolar vs MOSFET vs J-FET

Well all these devices, including tubes, do have different transfer function characteristics. Does this mean that identical circuits using different devices will sound different? Maybe. However; generally they are used quite differently and this probably accounts for a lot of the sound (especially circuits with a lot of feedback sound similar regardless of mosfet, bipolar, or to some extent even tube).

Here they model the behavior of Mosfet, bipolar and triode in simple circuits like single ended, push pull and differential with and without feedback (in this case simple local feedback). It will give you some insight and is not that hard to read. Remember though this is theoretical behavior and the performance in an actual circuit will depend on parts quality and layout of the circuit (such as proper grounding).
