Re: You won't read the answer, yet you complain you don't get one?

Why Tom, I'll just bet you accept all sorts of things from experts or presumed experts. You mention those who know a lot about electronics.

I suppose you would give some weight to your doctors' diagnoses and suggested treatments.

You may presume your auto mechanic knows what he/she is doing, if they consistently take care of your car maintenance and repair issues in a satisfactory manner. (Depending on your knowledge of automobiles.)

If you follow a diet plan, I presume you suppose that your dietitian is competent.

Now, here we have an expert on psychometrics in regards to audio. He tells me something pretty basic about how the hearing process works. It's not my field of expertise, so I defer to his knowledge and that of others in the relevant fields.

There is a semantic confusion. There is a distinction made between hearing and perceiving, one that is not part of ordinary language. For example, it is needed because it has been noticed that people often perceive differences when nothing has been changed. So, what the equipment does does not completely determine perception--and this is true for subjectivists and objectivists. (This is a rather simplified description, BTW). It is not necessary to suppose that you are not telling the truth when you say you perceive something different, and I certainly don't doubt your truthfulness on this. There is no reason to do so.

I should also point out that whether you like me or not, or whether I meet your conception of stand-up guy, a real hair shirt audiophile who knows what he knows, makes is own judgments and sticks to them, etc., really has nothing to do with whether what I have been saying is correct or not. That's why most of the time, I simply ignore insults--for the most part, it's water off a duck's back. But from time to time, I point them out when someone has run out of any other ammunition, like ___________. (Well, maybe I'll avoid his moniker--some others might feel left out!)
