Andy,In an effort to justify your beliefs at all costs you state: "Of course, in this case it is also rather important to know what equipment was involved and particularly if a badly designed valve amplifier (in terms of electrical behaviour rather than sound quality) was being used as I suspect it might from OPs posting id."
Ok Andy so you have more information these tests were originally performed on my David Belles (a fairly competent designer) designed solidstate OCM 88 preamp and OCM 200 poweramp. You see when I was an Objectivist at that time & believed things like cables don't audibly affect the sound, I also believed tubed equipment was outdated crap! Thank GOD I was an open-mined Objectivist and no longer believe either of these things, my ears have convinced me differently.
Next my friend Rick and I repeated the same test at Ricks house on his Michael Elliott designed (another fairly competent designer) Hybrid Counterpoint SA5000 preamp and SA 220 poweramp. We repeated the tests performed at my home, and once again we heard differences.
We (Rick and I) decided to repeat the tests once again. We heard differences on solidstate and then on hybrid audio equipment. But would we hear differences on tubed equipment, we didn't know and there was only one way to find out. So we ended this experiment by visting our now deceased friend Richard who owned an Aronov 960I tubed, integrated amp. In all cases, with solidsate, hybrid and tubed equipment we heard differences in interconnects. They are plainly evident and can be heard by ANYONE WITH AN OPEN MIND.
Lastly FYI I became Thetubeguy1954 3 years ago when I purchased the most musical (i.e. replicates live music more realistically than anything else I've heard to date) amp I've ever owned, the Mastersound Reference 845, integrated SET amp from Italy.
So NO Andy the equipment involved was NOT a badly designed valve amplifier as you suspected. I know you desperately needed to believe that in order to reinforce your beliefs, but you were sadly mistaken! All 3 designers David Belles with his solidstate equipment, Michael Elliott with his Hybrid equipment & Yakov Aronov with his tubed equipment are respected designers. So your beliefs based soley on my ID are completely wrong. Sometimes it pays to ask questions BEFORE making comments, no?
