Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Strange things do happen...

'If that is what you believe audiophiles are doing, that would indeed be strange.'

Strange, but true. Please note this poster mentioned bass response as a difference they heard. Many others have commented on cables having more bass, fuller mids, better treble, 'shimmer', 'sweeter', 'warmer' etc. and those comments would seem to be more oriented toward frequency response. So, in these cases I believe a tone control would suffice.

'expanded soundstaging, pinpoint imaging, lower noise floor and detail/resolution that cables'

I am not sure how cables help with the attributes you have listed except for better shielding which might lower the noise floor (which may help with detail, which helps with soundstage, and imaging). Of course, an imbalance in FR can result in more detail (and a difference in soundstaging) at that frequency extreme, and in that case we are back to a tone control.

One more thought, have you tried digital room equalization and correction? It can make a significant difference in soundstage and imaging.
