not only was the difference readily audible, but installing this cabling had nearly erased a 4db dropoff at 20khz in his system.

Even a couple tenths of an ohm resistance in speaker cabling will often allow audible back emf cross modulation between the LF and HF portions of a speaker crossover.

Skin effect for 20 awg wire starts to significantly decrease its conductivity above 20 khz with potentially significant effects on phase response a couple of octaves below that.

IC insulator dielectric characteristics are significant for audio just as is the case with audio quality capacitors which is why PVC insulation between conductors is seldom if ever used for high quality interconnects.

IC shielding characteristics can be important regarding SQ when there is significant conducted or induced EMI, since some (particularly SS) equipment does not handle out of audio band energy very well.

Still think old lamp wire is good enough for high quality audio?
