Actually McAttack said we don't trust our ears . . .

which is false. Actually, we don't trust our eyes, so to speak, to tell us about the sound. That's why the a blind test is blind, to eliminate every other influence other than the sound.

Of course, as has been said, to choose equipment solely on that basis it to imply that such things as reliability, build quality,features, ergonomics, cost, aesthtetics and so on are of no account.

Paradoxically, it is the opponents of blind testing who don't trust their ears, despite their protestations, because they want to know what it is they're listening to and not have to distinguish the equipment based on the sound alone.
