Re: wishful thinking

Not at all. Wishful thinking on my part is that con artists would find themselves on the wrong side of consumer protection laws or maybe the fists of a few people who realize after the fact that they've been conned, but I have no realistic expectation of that. In a sense, that's OK, it's a Gullibility Tax, and one can make a reasonable argument that people dumb enough to be taken deserve what they get.

But still, I'm continually disappointed that otherwise intelligent people fall for televangelists, faith healers, spoon benders, Nigerian scammers, astrologers, and sellers of voodoo. I can't help it, I want to believe that people are better than that. Call it cockeyed optimism. Or my own brand of Pollyanna thinking.
