So the difference is that the C-5xe has over twice (difference of 152.4ps) the peak to peak jitter of the CD12. That's pretty significant in my book.

As to whether it's audible or not, do a google on "audibility of jitter" - there's quite a few papers. Opinions vary depending on the assumptions made and the theoretical model used - the 20ps figure i quoted is one made by the person who designed the test signal used in the Stereophile measurements.

The main issue complicating the analysis is that the digital data already has intrinsic jitter (from the A/D process) - the question is - how much damage has already been done, and what is the incremental impact of additional jitter added during the playback process? Hence the varying opinions - ranging from "anything below 1ns is okay" to the figure i quoted.
