Allen, it depends which Esoteric player you're talking about. When it comes to the X-01, it uses R2R PCM1704 DACs which have no jitter tolerance while the DSD1792 in the Ayre is designed to tolerate/attenuate jitter. JA uses the analog outputs to measure jitter which includes the DACs. You can not say anything about the clock qulaity, unless you have the two players with the same DACs. Since both the Ayre and Esoteric are using clocking near the DACs, it is also possible that the Ayre clock is indeed better. This all have nothing to do with the transport but apparently things are not as good as they look. It does not really matter how low jitter you will achieve measured at the DACs or even the analog outputs as JA does if the DSP of your transport are not clocked properly. Whoever said that the clock for the DACs is most important and the DSP clock does not really matter is totally wrong, the importance is high in both cases. Needless to say, the vibrations, disc wobble and read error are equally important as well.Regards,
Alex
