Home Tape Trail

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

A couple of ideas

Hi.

I have a handheld Sony MiniDisc recorder that was around $125 that I'm very fond of for portable applications. Being in radio, I used the Sony & Marantz broadcast cassette machines for many years on a daily basis. And you're gonna get much better performance out of the minidisc. The controls are tiny and there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's performance beats any portable cassette machine I've used. You'd want to use the manual level rather than the auto level, of course.

If you don't have to use it on batteries, etc., get either a decent cassette deck (Onkyos & JVC are a good bargain on the used market) or a minidisc "deck". Grab a little Behringer UB-series mixer (I have three and they're excellent.) and a couple of MXL or other budget condenser mics from musiciansfriend.com and you're in business.

If you have the money, I'd personally go with Minidisc.

Cheers & good luck,
Bobbo :-)
