The original idea was not to exceed $250, but a more correct question would be where the best value for money around that budget is. By the way, unless there are specific reasons not to in this particular instance, I almost always buy used equipment.Another thing to keep in mind, I suppose, is that I don't need features: I'd rather have simplicity, and quality in so far as I can afford it.
In fact, I would seriously consider recording in mono, which intuitively should mean having an easier microphone placement and a lower cost. I've always felt that stereo is overrated for recording a solo piano, and I can live without for the trio too.
