I have found that by using an inline single stage line filter installed at the AC input of the unit such as the filters offered by Corcom, Schurter, etc. etc. will do an excellent job for the home/project studio environment.
Proper grounding practices always apply, and so does the electrical wiring in the dwelling. In addition I will also use Triplite Isobar Ultra filters for surge/spike suppresion.
Industrial applications can be far more demanding, but I have not found the need to go any further than what I have outlined above for home use.
