Of all the hair brained ideas I've seen or heard proposed to cope with grounding problems, this is the least unacceptable to me because it only involves a waste of money, not an actual increase in risk of injury or noise. ""Agreed with respect to it at least not increasing risk.
The question does remain, though..since the widgit did indeed affect something to the point of audibility, in a place where you would think that nothing can be affected, obviously the assumption of "inability to affect" is tossed out.
Once the assertion that it "cannot affect" is ruled out, as Dan has done, the questions now present are:
1. What is it in the vicinity that can be affected? I say ground loop and haversine pickup.
2. Without the widgit, is there no effect? I say, the widgit merely enhanced what was already there at levels that did not audibly (to Dan's experience) affect the system. The alternative that the widgit creates anything is unacceptably unscientific.
3. Given the affect at some arbitrary level, there exists the possibility that the widgit can either enhance or null the effect. Why assume that it can only make it worse? There is no basis for that.
4. Assuming there is an effect, it can be measured, it can be used to produce a coupling null.
So, what are we waiting for??
Cheers, John
