Modern transistors have more gain, as well as more nonlinearity. In any decent circuit, one can compensate for the other.And, of course, saying that these effects don't reveal themselves in "continuous measurements" is wrong, too.
Maybe if you use lame "continuous measurements", I suppose.
You're taking part of the design issue and promoting it to a level of importance that is unwarranted.
Back when transistors hit the audio market, people did design in a fashion that caused problems, mostly due to the fact that you should never use transistors in the same way you use tubes, but people persisted in doing exactly that.
We're over that, at least for the most part, now. (I try hard to never presume that people can NOT get something wrong...)
