"Only 4 tubes in parallel employing Circlotron OTL can deliver 125W on 8R load on class AB2 on a Vp only lowly 145V! This makes the amp building so much simpler, less bulky & less costly as contray to using up to 20x 6AS7G in parallel"Yes I know this and in fact I owned amps very similar to your description
http://www.silvaweld.com/ehanil.htmSee the Tube Reference OTL mono amplifiers, which use 4 6C33C-B tubes per monoblock and put out 100watts into 8 ohms and have a damping factor of 10 with 8 db negative feedback. This means an output impedance of 0.8 ohm for this amp. Power delivery was effortless as well.
It was the best sounding amp I ever owned by a wide margin but heated up my room by a full 10°C in the summer!! It was too hot even naked! Likewise the Einstein, using the same output tube but a circlotron design, sounds exquisite. Don't get me wrong I will own OTL again one day.
However; it requires negative feedback to get this low of an output impedance (The Tenor also uses feedback). Atma-sphere prefers not to use it and therefore have a much higher output impedance.
Now there is a major difference between an autoformer and a tranny on a normal tube amp. High voltage DC and current running through the tranny whereas the OTL has virtually zero (or at least it should if working properly) DC at the output. This makes it MUCH easier on the autoformer and should minimize the sound degradation.
Now I don't know about you but if I had difficult speakers I would think seriously about getting the best sounding amp possible and then using the autoformers to get it to work properly. Sure you do a bit of damage to the sound with the autoformers but I bet it still sounds better than the other amp options.
