I've absolutely no documentation, but I do believe all technologies need special techniques to sort out their unique problems. I do prefer tubes, however.
That being said, there is some interesting developments where by transistor performance is being markedly improved through careful analysis of the ultrasonic frequencies. Apparently since so many newer transistors are developed with a eye for digital switching, they have extremely high bandwidths, well into the gigahertz range. Any oscillation at the super high frequencies often manifests themselves in the creation of subharmonics which often rob transistor gear of that characteristic tube warmness. Some transistor designs I have seen which pay attention to such ultra high frequency oscillations sound very lush, without losing detail
and extension.
Counterpoint also published a few papers on tubes vs transistors which also make for interesting reading. I believe the gist of their arguements was that transistors had a measureable turn on resistance.......but it has been a while since the company existed.
Any way, nothing really definitve, but some tidbits for thought.
