Re: Why bother?

Here in the USA, universities don't teach tubes anymore and have not for close to twenty years. Why is that you might ask? Because it's a technology that is not in demand, and has little applications. Only very high voltage and high power RF still use tubes, and the only reason they have to is because they have not gotten Semiconductor to do this anywhere near as well yet. DARPA has a few projects on this. The last I knew they estimated about a 15 year time frame to get rid of tubes for the applications listed above.
So........you can out from underneath that rock you've been hiding under and realize there is a whole other world out there. It's just chock full of transistors.
