On the other hand, it also depends on what you're trained to hear.If you think about the discussion of the hearing process down below (the point of summarizing and losing information along the way), it is possible to learn to focus on many different things.
Training in, say, music, does not necessarily relate to training for sensitivity to, say, distortion artifacts of some sort.
But having done one does in fact seem to make it easier to learn the other.
