Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Some psychologists think that if people cannot tell in a short duration test whether the component has changed or not,

they are imagining differences they claim to hear in other circumstances. This is a testable hypothesis where we might vary the duration of the test, the number of people present, the music being played, even assessing variations among people. I doubt greatly whether DBTesting of same/different conditions validly assesses how individuals make their choices of components. Until there is such research, DBTesting does not discriminate between real and imagined difference but rather between highly structured and quick listening and typical listening.

But in reality I doubt if even those enamored with DBT follow their reasoning when buying. Given their grave concern about being ripped off, I suspect they buy the cheapest and rationalize that there is no need to buy anything better as people would not be able to really hear any improvement.

Essentially, this discussion and indeed this asylum is immaterial. No one is ever going to do the necessary testing of components and wires and no one would pay any attention to them were they done.
