Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: DBTs don't have any time limits...except for the patience of the guy conducting it. All it has to be is fair. nt

For the record, I don't have any anti-DBT bias that I'm aware of. I believe I have shed far more blood here at AA arguing with the subjectivists on this subject than I have with the objectivists.
I have great appreciation for the scientific method. I would be wholly ineffective as a trial lawyer in presenting expert testimony and cross examining experts if I didn't appreciate the importance of objective verification.

You ask okiemax why he wouldn't want to know. The answer for me is that objectivity in choosing components or cables for my own personal system is not my goal. Objectivity can't measure my personal, subjective enjoyment - and my personal, subjective enjoyment is the only thing that matters to me behind closed doors in the privacy of my own listening room - just as it is behind the closed doors in the privacy of my own bedroom.

A scientic opinion poll of men my age regarding the relative merits or shortcomings of my wife would have nothing to do with my enjoyment in the bedroom. Nor would my ability to pick her out in a DBT mean anthing to me - although it sure sounds like it would be a lot more fun than trying to prove that I can distinguish Monster Cable from Cardas in a DBT.

There is no one on this board that has done more to fight for the application of the scientific method to high end audio than Steve Eddy. And yet, I believe he understands and appreciates my position on this subject - for what that might be worth.
